The first time I met Ethan and Caroline was in a VERY CROWDED little, tiny, adorable bakery in the town of Westminster.
Apparently there was a Turkey Trot happening that weekend in town and there were lots and lots of people in this little place! I had never met either of them in person and Ethan was actually the one who contacted me through Facebook. To make the situation a little bit more interesting, I had no idea what Ethan looked like because he has no profile picture.
I walked around this little bakery, staring at each individual, trying to take notice if couples who came in together had rings on or if they looked as I pictured them in my head. I decided to find a seat at a barstool near the door after I got a couple of strange looks from people trying to enjoy their meal and coffee, while I smile at them strangely and look at their fingers! LOL
Imagine my relief when they recognized me from a wedding I had photographed that they were guests at and came up to me and greeted me with a big hug! “Ahhh! Yes….now I remember you! I many photos of you dancing at that wedding!”
We got to talking about the plans for their wedding. The ceremony in a mini cathedral, reception at gorgeous venue….EEEEK! My excitement was building and I couldn’t even make it 2 minutes down the road after our meetup, and was already texting my photog friends bragging about my clients but also texting Ethan and Caroline thanking them for choosing me. I know…I’m a cornball but I am still very blessed and thankful for each and every session and I don’t think new session inquiries will ever get old!
Fast forward to Saturday…I was texting Ethan ironing out the details for the next day. At the end of the conversation, I meant to put a smiley face. Well, my phone is always jacked up in some way or another, and I mistakenly sent him a kissy face emoji!
Sunday..ENGAGEMENT SESSION TIME! I noticed the text message “whoopsie” right before I left for the session.
Thoughts running through my crazy head:
- Caroline is going to think I want her man
- Ethan is going to think I want him
- Caroline will hate me
- Ethan will be weirded out that an old lady has the hots for him
- They will now fire me for being unprofessional
- I should just ignore it…act like it never happened…
- YOU CAN’T IGNORE THAT! YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO BE A PROFESSIONAL!
- Jess….just stop with the emojis…seriously
- You went to college for 6 years and you still can’t proofread???
- Ok…so you’re an adult, just address this. Explain how your phone is weird and move on.
- Dumbass…
And this is why these are my people…
I jump out of the car at the session and abruptly say, “Sooooo, I think I accidentally sent Ethan a kissy face last night…?” and Caroline immediatly chimes in, “WE WERE DYING! It was so funny…I know you probably just meant to send a smile or something but we thought it was hilarious.”
YASSSS! Crisis averted and all that anxiety that I could have put towards more important things! LOL
I gave them the option of morning golden hour or evening golden hour. These early birds chose the morning…and as much as I am NOT a morning person by choice, I ONLY WANT TO DO MORNING SESSIONS FROM NOW ON!
Just Kidding…kind of.
That sun peaking over the horizon. The colors of the sky. The MOON!?
Whatever the powers that be were with us that morning…the sun and the moon aligned and the session was a dream. A cold, windy dream but beautiful nonetheless.
These 2 are, obviously, hopelessly in love. Like, can they get any cuter? I kept looking at the back of my camera saying….OMG, guys…you’re gonna love these. Not tooting my own horn but it makes my job easy when you get 2 people naturally in love and it just shines through.
So…Ethan and Caroline…**sigh**…I swoon when looking through your photos and I pray that you keep looking at each other this way for the rest of your lives.
See you May! God Bless! **Insert kissy face emoji here**

Jess
